Refurbishment

An existing hotel located on the banks of the Rhine, 1 block from the picturesque Old Town, the Hilton Mainz hotel is in the heart of the historic Mainz. The modern façade blends in well with the local architecture & with the transformation of the new bar & restaurant it will raise the profile of dining experiences in Mainz & potentially entice its residents business travellers and tourists alike to enjoy this wonderfully contemporary design.

Client Brief

In terms of style we were asked for a Contemporary Urban design style for all areas in keeping with city, business style of the hotel. The team were asked to consider Mainz & its surroundings & to subtly reflect hints of its character in the new design.

Design Approach

One of the main features of this hotel is its proximity with the Rhine, this has been echoed in the design of the Restaurant & Bar spaces. The hotels situation is transposed into the design through use of transparent materials in the wine wall, being the entrance statement, opening up the restaurant to the views of the adjacent river. With a vine pattern drawing you through the space picked up in mosaics & an impressive specialist patterned metal finish. We like to think of our design style for this project as ‘sophisticated rustic with a hint of glamour’...a Germanic sense of style with natural end grain timber floors & simple metal lines & geometric shapes.
