5 Star Hotel, St Petersburg

Concept for Refurbishment

An old Czarist Palace just off Nevskij Prospect. The existing facades have been completely renovated and restored to compliment the new interiors. When complete the hotel will boast two presidential suites set into the new mansard rooves and a royal suite overlooking the main courtyard as well as a full range of F&B and Conference facilities.

Client Brief

JRJ were asked to provide a contemporary guestroom interior that acknowledged both the sense of place and the historic façade, without taking references from the more expected vernacular of the Hermitage and its surroundings.

Design Approach

The guestroom design emphasizes the delineation of use from resting, working and sleeping areas with openings framed in mocassa ebony.  Rich colours and patterns reflect the locale and the entrance area was visually widened with a Russian ceramic pattern running across the lobby and into the bathroom. A curved desk in the work/rest  looks out into the room opposite a chaise. The lounge and works area can be closed off by a drape to allow for greater feeling of privacy.
